MIKHAIL IVANCHENKO TALKED ABOUT THE RESEARCH OF THE LOBACHEVSKY UNIVERSITY

02/14/2020

Vice-rector for scientific activities took part in the press conference "AiF"

Nizhny Novgorod today is the center for the development of Russian and world science. Many discoveries have excellent prospects of becoming disruptive technologies.

Any innovative technology starts with fundamental research. In 2010, the Government of the Russian Federation established a mega-grants program to support scientific research in Russian universities. At the expense of such a mega-grant, a laboratory of extreme light fields was created at Lobachevsky University. It was headed by the famous French and American physicist, 2018 Nobel Prize laureate Gerard Mourou.

In 2019, the laboratory developed a technique for converting laser radiation into the terahertz range. It allows you to explore the structure of opaque objects and opaque substances. Such a technique is extremely necessary today in various production areas; it has every chance of being introduced into business.

Another research that has an undeniable technological perspective is the development of memristive devices and memristive chips to create intelligent systems that simulate the neural systems of the brain. This is the result of the work of the laboratory of stochastic multistable systems. It is headed by one of the world's leading scientists in the field of theoretical physics, Bernardo Spagnolo.

Another project from university scientists, promising for technology transfer, is related to genetics, healthy aging and active longevity. It is headed by the world-renowned geneticist Claudio Franceschi. “Mr. Franceschi is a great enthusiast, and under his influence, we for the first time in Russia began to study epigenetic markers of aging,” says Mikhail Ivanchenko, Vice-Rector for Research at UNN. - We live in special climatic conditions, we have our own genetics, our own nutritional traditions, our own type of stress, and so on. We are now trying to study these features in order to estimate the biological age of a person with the help of special test systems and prevent many age-related diseases, ”emphasizes Mikhail Ivanchenko, Vice-Rector for Research at Lobachevsky University.

The university graduates who founded the Nizhny Novgorod «Itseez» company are one of the key developers of the OpenCV open computer vision library. Today it is the most popular library in the world, with 18 million downloads, among its users are market giants Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Intel, IBM, Sony and others. The development of the computer library continues in cooperation with the Nizhny Novgorod offices of the world's leading IT companies.

In November 2019, a plant of a Russian innovative company was opened in Malaysia for the production of non-cancerogenic ("green") technological filler oils for tires, synthetic rubbers and rubber compounds. The plant uses highly efficient technology to create chemical products that meet high environmental requirements. A significant contribution to the creation of such technology was also made by university scientists.
